Emergency Operations Center Update

• 6:24 PM: Zero confirmed cases in Shiawassee County

• 6:24 PM: 3 confirmed deaths statewide

• 6:25 PM: 549 confirmed cases in Michigan

• Memorial Healthcare has collected 199 tests for COVID-19, 31 tests have come back negative and the rest are still pending. Memorial Healthcare is diligently working to have in-house lab equipment for testing as quickly as possible.

• Continue communications with local, state, and federal partners

• If county residents have health questions or concerns related to COVID- 19, they can call the Shiawassee County Health Department COVID-19 hotline at 989-743-2460 Monday – Friday, 8AM-5PM.

• To slow the spread: wash your hands with soap and water, stay home if you or someone you live with is sick, avoid touching your face, cover your cough or sneeze with your elbow, stay at least 6 feet away from others, and call your healthcare provider if you are sick.

• In cooperation with the Bureau of Elections and after reaching out to the entities in Shiawassee County that had a ballot question for the May 5, 2020 Special Election, Durand Area Schools & Laingsburg Community Schools submitted Resolutions to the County Clerk RESCINDING their proposal language for the upcoming May 5, 2020 Special Election. THERE WILL BE NO MAY 5, 2020 SPECIAL ELECTION IN SHIAWASSEE COUNTY.

Update 3/22/2020

Art Van Furniture is suspending its liquidation sales due to the COVID-19. The Warren-based retailer said Thursday that it is following guidance by public health authorities. 

Great Lakes Crossing in Auburn Hills and Twelve Oaks in Novi will close their doors through at least March 29th. The owner of both malls, Taubman Centers, is closing down nearly all of its malls nationwide. 

The Grand Rapids Children's Museum is helping kids stay busy at home during school closures. The museum is closed, but its online portal to fun and activities is open.

An aging bridge in Detroit over I-94 is closed for repairs until Sunday. The Cass Avenue bridge between West Palmer and Antoinette has been shut down by the Michigan Department of Transportation.  

Operations at Flint Assembly have stopped due to concerns over the coronavirus. Employees were told Flint Assembly operations wrapped up after second shift. Flint Assembly will be back to operation March 30th. 

Ferris State University is closing all residence halls on campus as it offers online classes to students during the coronavirus outbreak. Ferris will offer remote instruction through June 1. 

Michigan Congressman John Moolenaar is keeping busy during the coronavirus pandemic. He held a telephone town hall Thursday afternoon and says he’s worked on legislation to help the country and Michigan.
