Nine Coronavirus-Related Deaths Reported in Last 24 Hours In Michigan

Approaching 2,000 Confirmed COVID-19 Cases in Michigan



The latest report from the State of Michigan reveals nine deaths in the 24 period ending at 10am on Tuesday March 24th 2020; 5 in Wayne County, 3 in Washtenaw and 1 in Macomb.  Lapeer County now has its first Coronavirus case.  Shiawassee County continues to have zero confirmed cases, however, this morning the Shiawassee County Health Department reported that Memorial Healthcare is awaiting the results of 172 tests that are delayed by backups at private and state labs.

Memorial has so far received 89 negative results.  The Owosso-based hospital hopes to soon have its own equipment for in-house testing.

There are now 1,791 confirmed Coronavirus cases in Michigan and 24 total related deaths.  The state's next update will come at around 2pm on Wednesday.

Art Van Furniture is suspending its liquidation sales due to the COVID-19. The Warren-based retailer said Thursday that it is following guidance by public health authorities. 

Great Lakes Crossing in Auburn Hills and Twelve Oaks in Novi will close their doors through at least March 29th. The owner of both malls, Taubman Centers, is closing down nearly all of its malls nationwide. 

The Grand Rapids Children's Museum is helping kids stay busy at home during school closures. The museum is closed, but its online portal to fun and activities is open.

An aging bridge in Detroit over I-94 is closed for repairs until Sunday. The Cass Avenue bridge between West Palmer and Antoinette has been shut down by the Michigan Department of Transportation.  

Operations at Flint Assembly have stopped due to concerns over the coronavirus. Employees were told Flint Assembly operations wrapped up after second shift. Flint Assembly will be back to operation March 30th. 

Ferris State University is closing all residence halls on campus as it offers online classes to students during the coronavirus outbreak. Ferris will offer remote instruction through June 1. 

Michigan Congressman John Moolenaar is keeping busy during the coronavirus pandemic. He held a telephone town hall Thursday afternoon and says he’s worked on legislation to help the country and Michigan.
